Home education in the UK is legal, flexible, and growing — and many Muslim families are choosing it to create a learning environment that reflects their values, pace, and child’s individual needs.

As a Muslim mum who has been home educating in the UK for over a decade, I know the journey can feel both exciting and overwhelming — especially when you’re doing it with faith at the centre.

This page exists to support you — practically and spiritually. Whether you're just exploring home education, about to deregister, or already teaching at home, you’ll find guidance that’s lawful, thoughtful, and rooted in care for both deen and dunya.

A Warm Welcome to With Salam: Home Education

My name is Jill, and I’m a Muslim revert and home educating mum to three girls — aged 11, 9, and 6 — all of whom have been learning at home since birth.

I embraced Islam in 2011, shortly after the passing of a family member at just 24 years old. I had been learning about Islam for some time, but it was that moment — that reminder of how short this life truly is — that gave me the clarity and courage to take my shahadah. I didn’t want to leave this world in a state of disbelief.

Since then, my faith has shaped every aspect of my life — especially how I raise and educate my children.

Alongside home educating, I co-run BeyondTrauma Academy CIC, where we support women from all backgrounds in understanding the nervous system, healing from trauma, and building safer inner worlds. That work continues to deepen my belief in the power of slow, intentional living — especially within the home.

On this page, you’ll find practical help for home education in the UK, simple ideas for faith-led learning, and reflections on working from home while home educating, Muslim motherhood, and building a home rooted in peace and purpose.

Whether you're just exploring home education or looking for weekend learning ideas that align with your values — you are warmly welcome here.
